Weirdo (Cyborg Selfie)
This is the first in a series of paintings created to explore derogatory words used to describe me that I now wear as a badge of honor. I am the weirdo, the Borg (thank you blood sugar sensor) and selfie-maker. I used cardboard to cut out the letters and then covered the entire piece with tissue paper (saved from gifts I've been given) and glue to create a new "blank" canvas. The piece is collaged and painted to reflect who I am (at least for right now). I purposefully broke some "art rules" to convey my imbalance, my headspace and how I move through the world. She is wonky and not right, frenzied and top heavy, but her heart is pure. She sees the beauty all around; especially, in herself.
